High performance renewable content for plastics
OCEANEX is a bio-renewable resin supplement that uses waste oyster shell as its core ingredient. Using OCEANEX manufacturers can reduce the amount of petroleum-based polymer needed to make extruded, thermo-formed and injection-moulded plastics.
The supplement can cut the polymer content of high-volume consumer products like carrier bags by up to 25%. In items like plastic bottles, caps and closures the reduction can be as much as 45%. Most importantly it achieves this reduction without any significant loss in product performance.
A sustainable source
OCEANEX is made using waste oyster shell generated by the mariculture industry. This is a waste stream which is widely considered to be sustainable. Waste oyster shells actually present a major disposal problem in many coastal regions, so it is being diverted to a good cause. There are no GMO issues with OCEANEX and it does not contain a food stock.
The magic ingredient
OCEANEX achieves high polymer reduction levels in plastics by harnessing the power of the compounds naturally found in powdered Oyster shell, Aragonite, Calcite and the bio-polymer Chitin. The shell is fully de-natured before use, ground into a micro-fine powder and compounded into a pellet ready for plastics production.
